Minimally-modeled search of higher multipole gravitational-wave radiation in compact binary coalescences

چکیده
As the Advanced LIGO and Virgo interferometers, soon to be joined by KAGRA interferometer, increase their sensitivity, they detect an ever-larger number of gravitational waves with a significant presence higher multipoles in addition dominant $(2, 2)$ multipole. These can detected different approaches, such as minimally-modeled burst search methods, here we discuss one approach based on coherent WaveBurst pipeline (cWB). During inspiral phase produce chirps whose instantaneous frequency is multiple (2, 2) multipole, describe how cWB used these spectral features. The performed within suitable regions time-frequency representation; shape determined optimizing Receiver Operating Characteristics. This novel method has already been GW190814 discovery paper (Astrophys. J. Lett. 896 L44) very fast flexible. Here full detail procedure (3,3) multipole well searches for other during phase, apply it another event that displays multipoles, GW190412, replicating results obtained methods. described analysis support findings model-based Bayesian parameter estimates

متن کاملGW170817: Implications for the Stochastic Gravitational-Wave Background from Compact Binary Coalescences.
The LIGO Scientific and Virgo Collaborations have announced the event GW170817, the first detection of gravitational waves from the coalescence of two neutron stars. The merger rate of binary neutron stars estimated from this event suggests that distant, unresolvable binary neutron stars create a significant astrophysical stochastic gravitational-wave background. The binary neutron star compone...
متن کاملObserving Imbh–imbh Binary Coalescences via Gravitational Radiation
Recent numerical simulations have suggested the possibility of forming double intermediate mass black holes (IMBHs) via the collisional runaway scenario in young dense star clusters. The two IMBHs formed would exchange into a common binary shortly after their birth, and quickly inspiral and merge. Since space-borne gravitational wave (GW) observatories such as LISA will be able to see the late ...
متن کاملDetecting compact binary coalescences with seedless clustering
Compact binary coalescences are a promising source of gravitational waves for second-generation interferometric gravitational-wave detectors. Although matched filtering is the optimal search method for well-modeled systems, alternative detection strategies can be used to guard against theoretical errors (e.g., involving new physics and/or assumptions about spin or eccentricity) while providing ...
متن کاملGravitational Wave Radiation from Compact Binary Systems in the Jordan-Brans-Dicke Theory
In this paper we analyze the signal emitted by a compact binary system in the Jordan-Brans-Dicke theory. We compute the scalar and tensor components of the power radiated by the source and study the scalar waveform. Eventually we consider the detectability of the scalar component of the radiation by interferometers and resonant-mass detectors. 1 Dipartimento di Fisica, Università di Roma II “To...
